Earth without ornament.
Texture and weight lead the image, leaving the frame direct, elemental, and deliberately spare.
BEHIND THE FRAME
There is very little distance in this photograph. Kassem stays close to the surface, letting the ground carry the image through weight and texture. The frame refuses a scenic horizon. Instead, the eye meets matter: dark soil, rough colour, mineral density. It is a direct picture, almost blunt, and that directness is what gives it strength.
