BEHIND THE FRAME
The red figure gives the glacier its measure. Without it, the image could become pure scale, impressive but distant. Kassem keeps the person small and off-centre, so the photograph stays with the fact of standing before something much larger than the body. The ice carries most of the frame. The human presence does not conquer it; it simply lets us understand its size.
